Alright, here comes the Reflection Post

If I had to summarize her entire English journey, I'd probably put it into one sentence:
She always stuck to the path her teacher laid out.

Her approach to GENERAL ENGLISH.
DIyora joined one of my Elementary groups probably in spring 2024. She had already had some strong command of English, even though she was only getting started. I used to preach to her group about the importance of consuming English
beyond
solutions textbooks and Inside Reading series. They were often told something along the lines of '
Your solutions book won't be enough; all the language you get from the Inside Reading books is only the basics
'. She always seemed to be particularly convinced about these wake-up calls. Slowly but surely, she started making some tremendous progress, with her listening and reading comprehension improving by leaps and bounds. By the time she moved up to Intermediate (PRE-IELTS), she had already
finished all level books
and
watched 10-15 TV-series
. It was in Intermediate that I told her to take her prep to a whole different, serious level: She had to go through many Hot English, Reader's Digest magazines and watch tons of videos on YouTube. All this hard work set her language up nicely for the challenging storms of IELTS classes.

IELTS — the last phase.
Whoa. Probably the most demanding 3 months of her and my life. Right from the first class of IELTS, without even doing anything, I made a point to nurture their mindset the right way —
I talked about the importance of note-taking during every single IELTS class
because I always tried to feed all my IELTS students with decent and natural language. Her notebooks used to get packed with all the language I used in class. Another smart thing she did was focus on ideation — one aspect of IELTS most students do not even pay attention to. When I gave sample answers to speaking and writing questions, she would always note down the ideas I mentioned, along with nice vocabulary. Oh, by the way, I can't emphasize her consistency enough:
there was not a single time she skipped lessons in IELTS
. She probably skipped only 2 lessons over the course of 1 year and 10 months, and both were during GE.
So, overall, here are some simple yet effective things she did to get to Band 8.5: always did her homework fully, never skipped lessons (except for 2), no birthday parties, no weddings, no 'sick' days, tons of note-taking both in and outside the class, and emotional resilience. And probably the most important of all is something she did, which I'd like to describe in Uzbek:
