What really sets a livable city apart, in my view, is its physical layout combined with its cultural pulse. Walkability is arguably the most critical factor. If you’re forced to get behind the wheel for every minor errand, you instantly lose that spontaneous connection with your surroundings. The best cities are designed around decentralized hubs—meaning you have green spaces, independent cafes, and public squares organically woven into residential blocks. These naturally become "third spaces" where a community actually forms.
On top of the infrastructure, a city needs a distinct cultural identity. And I don’t mean massive, state-funded museums; I mean street-level vibrancy. Things like diverse food markets, independent arts scenes, and neighborhood-level events. When a city gets its urban planning right and allows local culture to thrive, it creates an inherent sense of belonging that keeps people anchored there.
