MOSCOW, May 8.
/TASS/.
Russia has agreed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s initiative for a ceasefire with Ukraine from May 9 to May 11 and for a prisoner exchange with Kiev during that period in a “one thousand for one thousand” format, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov (pictured above) said.
“On the instructions of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, I confirm the acceptability for the Russian side of the initiative just proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump concerning a ceasefire to the purpose of conducting an exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine,” Ushakov told journalists.

The Belgorod Brit goes back to basics outlining the cultural situation in the Middle East, or West Asia, if you prefer. In the film, he describes the four main cultural forces of the area prior to the european colonial expansion, Ottoman, Persian, Egyptian, and Arabian.
In the podcast, BB goes into the way the British Empire took greater and greater interest in the region, until the inter-war period when they, and to a lesser extent, the French had almost complete control of three of the four cultures. He then recounts the period of the US takeover of the British Empire in the area and their inheritance of the violence and bribery that has kept the Empires in the region for the last quarter of a millennium. BB describes why it is coming to an end, and who is waiting to step in.

Meanwhile in the world of boring press meetings, the pro-Russian news organization Anna News - the same organization that risked their journos to get some truly neat footage from the Syrian civil war a decade ago - held a small conference about World War II.
The conference was attended - partly online - by public figures from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and a small country of South Ossetia, which was a part of the reason the Russian-Georgian war happened in 2008. Today South Ossetia doesn't consider itself part of Georgia, which greatly irritates Georgia - but that's a separate long story.
The conference's participants spoke for about an hour about matters they consider important, and they agreed that the USSR won the WW2 thanks to the unity of countries within the USSR. Which is technically true - if the entire USSR disintegrated during the World War II - it would have greatly hampered the war effort.
Anyway, after this "press hang-out" of sorts, a resolution was adopted by the participants - it's aimed to "preserve the truth about the war, to pass on the history to posterity, and to protect the history itself", from what the participants called "the distortion of history." They also mentioned the issues of combating neo-Nazism, world peace, etc. A rather boring meeting, unlike the footage from active combat zones the Anna News gets sometimes. Why does everything have to become corporate and boring?

On May 8, 1945, a document was signed marking the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 and the conclusion of World War II in Europe.
On May 8, 1945, at 22:00 Central European Time (24:00 Moscow Time), representatives of the Soviet Supreme High Command, headed by Marshal Georgy Zhukov, and the Allied Supreme Command entered the hall where the signing ceremony was to take place.
The unconditional capitulation document was drafted in nine copies (three for each side — in Russian, English, and German). From the German side, the document was signed by the Chief of the Supreme High Command of the Wehrmacht, Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel, the representative of the Luftwaffe (Air Force), Lieutenant General Hans Stumpff, and the representative of the Kriegsmarine (Navy), Admiral Hans von Friedeburg.
Marshal Georgy Zhukov and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Expeditionary Forces, Marshal Arthur Tedder (Great Britain), accepted the unconditional surrender. General Carl Spaatz (USA) and General Jean de Lattre de Tassigny (France) signed as witnesses.
The document stipulated that both the English and Russian texts were authentic. One copy of the act was immediately handed to Keitel. Another authentic copy of the act was delivered by plane to the Supreme High Command Headquarters of the Red Army on the morning of May 9.
The full copy (i.e., in three languages) of the Act of Military Surrender of Germany, as well as the authentic document with the signature of Denitz certifying the authority of Keitel, Friedeburg, and Stumpff, is held in the International Treaty Archive of the Russian Federation's Foreign Policy Archive. Another authentic copy of the act is located in Washington at the National Archives of the USA.
The signing procedure of the capitulation concluded on May 8 at 22:43 Central European Time, corresponding to 0:43 Moscow Time on May 9.
May 9 is the official Victory Day in the USSR and Russia.

The Russians are back in Africa
Those who know the history of 20th century are aware how much effort the USSR spent in Africa. Things were built, weapons were gifted, governments were supported or opposed - all for the sake of the global war of ideologies of West vs East. The "East" lost, and Africa was left for the Western national and corporate entities to do whatever they want. And so they did for decades.
Now, in the present time, the once steadfast West is crumbling from the weight of its own incompetence. China moved in Africa to secure some deals and favors, and some time later - Russia followed the suit. This time, it's not about ideologies - it's a traditional war of politics and business. And Russia, despite the war with Ukraine, is going deep in the entire Sahel region, and in Guinea especially. Russia wouldn't be so successful if the West wasn't so greedy decades before: if the Sahel states loved the West - they wouldn't accept Russian gifts in the first place.
