The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the death of 10 persons following an attack by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen at Amagu village in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman of the command, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident on Sunday in Abakaliki while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). According to him, the attack occurred on Sunday morning, leaving several casualties and destruction in its wake.
"Several houses were also burnt selectively in the area, and other properties were destroyed," Ukandu stated.
He further revealed that upon receiving the information, police operatives were immediately deployed to the area to restore order.
"We are currently investigating the incident while normalcy has returned to the area," he assured.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns over security in the region, with residents calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to prevent further attacks.
